Podcasts are awesome. Here’s how to get them.
At the moment there are a gazillion APPs and websites out there disseminating podcasts. It doesn’t matter whether you’re on iPhone or Android or if you only have an iPad. I listen to podcasts specific to my industry, health and family stuff but there are so many categories. You can listen to them any place, any time. For free.
What is a podcast?
A podcast is like a recorded radio programme; one that you can listen to on demand.
How can I listen to a podcast?
You can listen to podcasts on websites when connected to wifi (this is called streaming), or you can download a podcast onto an APP on your phone or laptop, which means you’re saving it onto your phone or computer so you can listen to it anytime, even without an internet connection.
Why would I listen to one?
There are lots out there, and they’re free! They’re a great way of keeping informed or entertained when you’re on the move, or if you just want to cut down your screen time.
How to listen or watch one on a website (No set up needed):
Go to the parent website of podcast you like (for example mine, or a podcasting website like Soundcloud, find the podcast you want to listen to, check you’re connected to wifi and that your volume is on and click play.
How to download
For this one there is a bit of set up needed, but then you can listen when you want and you won’t use up your data:
iPhones or iPads

It should show up on your screen icons. Tap it.
Search for your show.
Press play, or download. Check volume.
On a Mac
Click ‘podcasts’ in drop down menu in top left.
Click on ‘store’ in top centre. (It’s called store but podcasts are free)
Browse shows by category from the drop-down box.
Click play. If you like it, click subscribe to get more.
Podcast Player is an alternative to Google Podcasts. It’s on the Play store and is also free. It looks like a white radio tower in a purple circle.
Open Podcast Player app.
Choose your favourite topics. You have to select at least 3.
Tap next. This will confirm your choices, and recommend some other podcasts based on your selections.
Tap skip on top right. This will skip recommendations and open the home page.
Tap a podcast, choose an episode, tap play and enjoy!
This is just to get you started – there are so many players out there including: Soundcloud, Stitcher and Spotify. Or the super-duper paid-for versions like Overcast and Pocket Casts who do clever things like trim out silence and boost voices when you’re in noisy places.
If you still can’t work it out, get in touch and we’ll show you how.
And finally, my favourite podcasts
Live The Change by Lucy Hutchings Hunt My own (of course!)
School of Greatness by Lewis Howes. (This podcast has changed my life for the better – so much)
Glambition Radio by Ali Brown. (Ali is supercool and I love her guest list of incredible female entrepreneurs.)
